Most people have low grade locks installed on their front door at home, not knowing they provide little to no security at all. In other cases some people have learned about high security locks and have completed the upgrade knowing how important it is.

After spending the money on a rather expensive high security lock, the thought of spending even more on replacing your door or frame, or worse – both, could really hurt your pocket. This is why we decided to let you in on a few tips that can save you some money yet help you keep your home or business security intact.

When an average thief or burglar comes across a door with a high security lock they do one of two things; they either move on to another victim or they use brute force – since picking or manipulating the lock is not a valid option given this is an average burglar.

In case the option the intruder has chosen is to break in using force, you need to be protected ahead of time. Brute force will usually mean kicking in the door or using a crow bar to pry the door open. In order to prevent such an attack you would have to either replace your door and frame with much stronger ones, something that would cost you quite a lot; or you can reinforce the weak spots of your entrance. These spots are usually just around the area where your locks are located.

One of the best brands that offer many accessories for reinforcing your door is Donjo. The most popular solution they offer is a brass wrap-around. This product is installed along with your lock; and protects the entire area around your lock, preventing any attempt of tampering with your lock and making it extremely difficult to pry the door open around that area by not allowing the burglar to wedge anything between that and the door frame. These wrap around are also great for repairing a damaged door.

Another great product we can suggest is a latch guard; many times gaining entry can be quite easy. All the intruder will need is to slip a credit card between the door and the frame; this will push the latch inwards making the door pop right open. A latch guard is installed in such a manner that it blocks the gap between the door and the frame, making it impossible to tamper with the latch.

A combination of both a latch guard and a brass wrap around can make a great security feature with an affordable price tag, much cheaper than getting a new door and frame. So until you can afford to get a completely new door, get these security reinforcement accessories.
